Google-type eBook collection searching? (no replies)

I've almost run out of the questions 1. no one else can answer, 2. they never could after 10 years either.

I've not only got a hefty PDF collection, they're all interesting and many I had to buy when I went to University. Lots of cookbooks, cheat sheets, even many web pages and personal papers that I've converted to PDF. I've been hoping for a day I can make a local library out of most of it.

But most of all, I've been trying to get together a Jitterbug (named after a simple cell phone) computer for my mom. She's terrified of computers and I don't blame her one bit. I know she'd benefit if I made her a computer that's offline, but has her movies handbraked and available using DLNA (this is doable) but her cookbooks... that's a different story. I'd love to have a system in place that indexes all the words within. Because I turn off indexing on Windows machines, it might be available already and I'm too slow to use an old Google Desktop app.

But for mom, I'd think she'd like Linux Mint, offline and basic stuff. And if it works for her I'd repeat it for me, especially with home cloud storage and just index the 30 Gig collection here.

I could see it now, she has some garden veggies, say carrots, and searches "carrot", and maybe search suggestions say "cake" "bread" "salad" and she can go to deeper levels to find a use for it. I could use it too.

-edited- i hate to sound paranoid but in this day and age everything we do is monitored by so many entities, I mean use Ghostery even and see how many entities are trying to monitor who is at a given website. I see a fork on the information superhighway, one trend where everything you do is online and to hell with any privacy. And another, almost totally offline and be oblivious to the news and "time wasters". With an election year coming up next year, I could be persuaded to get some work done instead of let the media world get me riled-up all day when i check the news. Hope I'm not ranting. Time for bed :-)
